There are two types of active cells in our bones. One type is the osteoblasts. These cells are the bone-repair cells. They work over-time in young people replacing old bone every year. Old bone, though, does not give up easily. They must be destroyed and removed, such being the job of the other type of cell – osteoclasts.

This dynamic process reminds me of something occurring every time we study the Bible. This process in Bible study is called “hermeneutics.” Hermeneutics, when applied to Bible study, is the process of applying biblical principles to today’s world. Just like osteoblasts and osteoclasts, in our Bible study we have to take away the first century culture and then re-apply the remaining principle to twenty-first century culture.
