The author ironically understands that simply hitting a child is not profitable but scripture also teaches that both reproof (the verbal correction) and the rod (physical punishment) are what give wisdom (Prov 29:15). I’ve seen fathers lash out and discipline their children and that’s not according to God’s instruction.
Science is often used to undermine eternal truths found in God’s Word. Paul warned, “O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called” (1Tm 6:20). Science would have us believe there is no God, that life does not exist even mid-pregnancy, that God’s design for marriage and family is flawed, and of course, that God’s design for nurture and admonition of children is wrong.
