WHAT JESUS’ BLOOD DOES

SCRIPTURE – 1 Peter 1:18-19  knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.

INTRODUCTION

  1. What was the purpose of Jesus shedding His blood on the cross of Calvary?
  2. 1 Corinthians 1:18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
  3. What power does Jesus blood have and what does it do for us?
  1. THE BLOOD OF JESUS REDEEMS FROM SIN – Ephesians 1:7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace
  2. Colossians 1:14 in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.
  3. Hebrews 9:12 Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.

  1. THE BLOOD OF JESUS BROUGHT REMISSION OF SINS – Matthew 26:28 For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
  • THE BLOOD OF JESUS JUSTIFIES US – Romans 5:9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.
  1. THE BLOOD OF JESUS SANCTIFIES BELIEVERS – Hebrews 10:10 By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
  1. THE BLOOD OF JESUS CLEANSES US FROM ALL SIN – 1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
  1. THE BLOOD OF JESUS WASHES OUR SIN STAINED ROBES – Revelation 7:14 And I said to him, “Sir, you know.” So he said to me, “These are the ones who come out of the great tribulation, and washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
  • THE BLOOD OF JESUS WASHES US FROM OUR SINS – Revelation 1:4-5 John, to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace to you and peace from Him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven Spirits who are before His throne, (5) and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood.
  • THE BLOOD OF JESUS IS A PROPITIATION (ATONING SACRIFICE) – Romans 3:24-25 being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, (25) whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed.
  1. THE BLOOD OF JESUS CLEANSES OUR CONSCIENCE – Hebrews 9:13-14 For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh, (14) how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

CONCLUSION

  1. Is Jesus’ blood working for you?
  2. Have you been freed from your sins?
  3. Have you washed away your sins in baptism? Acts 22:16
